Helpful Advice - Packing

Don't leave hardly any packing to the day before the move. Consider what you don't need to take with you, what will need careful packing, and that you are covered for potential breakages.

• Make a priority packing list

• Go through your belongings and try to clear-out unwanted items. There is bound to be a charity shop on your local High street that would be really happy to receive your donation or, if you have the time, hold a car boot sale. The proceeds could go towards re-decorating your new home.

• Calculate how many boxes you will need. Careful Kelly Removals St Albans provide boxes in a variety of sizes along with just about everything else you’ll need such as tape and bubble wrap. Removal companies in St Albans also suggest you save old newspapers for lining boxes and wrapping.

• Don't completely fill large boxes, as they will be too heavy to move.

• Check that your contents insurance will cover damage and breakages during the move.

• Put all hazardous materials, such as paint, bleach and aerosols, into a separate box and keep them isolated from your other items

Think ahead

You won't be able to unpack everything in the first day, so consider what you might need easy access to soon after you cross the threshold of your new home.

• Pack an 'essentials' box for the first night including items such as tea, coffee, plates, cutlery and a kettle, toilet paper and toiletries.

• Do your laundry before you move. You’ll have enough to do without this on arrival at your new home

• Load the boxes containing items you need the least first.
